Thief’s Gambit is officially released

Thief’s Gambit, the next, fifth, and longest Assassin Without a Name story to date, is officially released!

It’s great getting this one out there. I love the direction the story is going in and I love the characters.

I did an interview for GG Collins a couple of weeks ago in which she asked me what Thief’s Gambit was all about. Here’s my answer:

Thief’s Gambit is a rip-roaring escapade where readers find out why the Assassin Without a Name, well, doesn’t have a name. It’s much more revealing about the character than any of the previous stories, and it moves the overall storyline along nicely as we find out that the Warders, who have seemed benign up to this point, may not have the good people of Alchester’s best interests at heart after all. Elizabeth West, the title character’s love interest and the thief referred to in the title, is back, leveling insults at my main character while making sure he doesn’t get himself killed. The series has been a lot of fun to write and this story, I think, is the best yet.

Thief’s Gambit continues the story, but it’s by no means over. The next story is “in process” now, going through initial editing. It’s titled “Assassin’s Justice” and should be out soon.

Thief’s Gambit now available for pre-order!

Thief’s Gambit, the fifth story in the Assassin Without a Name series, is now available for pre-order on Amazon!

It's priced at 99 cents throughout the pre-order period. After that, it goes up to $2.99.

Here’s what it’s about:

The hunter has become the hunted, as the Assassin Without a Name is forced from his usual haunts by Gwendolyn Goddard and her Black Guard watchdogs. On the run and out of patience, a welcome distraction arrives in the form of an old flame, Elizabeth West, who recruits him for a special Warder mission. The Jakaree are on the move, searching for an ancient relic so diabolical the Warders are intent on destroying it before the zealots can lay a hand on it.

But the Assassin Without a Name soon learns that Elizabeth has something bigger in mind. Suspicious of her employer's true motives, she sets out to uncover the truth, leading them on a harrowing escapade across Alchester's rooftops, deep beneath the city's once grand temples, and into the sky onboard a Warder airship.

The official release date for Thief’s Gambit is March 10, 2015.

An update on Thief’s Gambit

Thief's Gambit

The next Assassin Without a Name story is in-progress. Seems like it's been in that state for a while, huh? That's because I took a short break after finishing The Goddard Affair before jumping into the outlining of this next one. Then I got a little side-tracked by the Blackguards Kickstarter project. The plus side of that little distraction is that even if the story I submitted doesn't get accepted as part of the anthology, I wrote it as the 6th (or maybe 7th) story in the AWAN series, so the next story after TG is already ready to go.

But, back to Thief's Gambit. I'm 22,000 words into the rough draft now. Based on the outline, I expect this one to hit around 40,000 when all is said and done, which puts it squarely in novella range. That makes it the longest AWAN story to date, and puts a nice round figure of 80,000 words total for the first five stories (I'm thinking anthology here).

But, first, need to finish up Thief's Gambit. Back to it...
