Clyde Mantock grew up in the bustling streets of Brighton, the son of humble bakers. From a young age, Clyde was taught the value of hard work and community, spending many days helping his parents in their bakery. His naturally affable personality made him well-liked by customers and neighbors alike. As Clyde grew older, he knew he wanted to carve out his own niche in the city, and with financial help from his parents, he opened his inn, “The Amber Hearth.”
The Amber Hearth quickly became a popular spot in Brighton, known for its warm, inviting atmosphere and hearty meals. Clyde prided himself on serving quality food and ale, always with a friendly smile and a genuine interest in his patrons’ lives. Many of his customers are regulars, drawn not just by the food and drink but by Clyde’s easy-going nature and genuine hospitality.
Clyde’s younger sister, Maeve, has always been close to him. She married Trevin Small, a city guardsman, and while Clyde is happy for her, he can’t help but worry about the dangers Trevin faces daily. Clyde often invites Maeve and Trevin to the tavern for dinner, using those moments to keep an eye on her and offer quiet support.
Evan left the palace to find the moderately priced inn he’d told Ursool about. He’d stayed there before on previous visits, so after a little reorientation of his surroundings, he located the place. The proprietor, Clyde Mantock, was as round and jolly as he remembered him, and Evan was humbled when the man not only remembered his name, but that he preferred a room with a window overlooking the main street. A hot bath and a quick change into a pair of breeches and a green tunic, the golden eagle emblem of the Alzion Hall embroidered front and center, shook off any lingering frustration Evan felt at the snubbing he’d endured at the palace. While he enjoyed a late breakfast in the inn’s common room, Clyde obliged his curiosity by filling him in on the past week’s happenings.
- THE NULLIFICATION ENGINE
Though Clyde’s life seems simple, he finds great satisfaction in running his tavern and looking out for the people he loves. His concern for Maeve’s well-being is never far from his mind, but he takes comfort in knowing she’s strong, just like their mother.
