Last time I talked a little about what I've been up to and how I've returned to writing. Now, let's jump into my short term goals in terms of what next and immediate steps I'll be taking.
The first order of business—figuring out where I left off—is already in process. This means reviewing my notes to refresh my memory as to where I left each of the Alchemancer and Assassin Without a Name series. Also, I had already outlined the next books, so I’m reviewing those and revising as needed. Given that these were set aside for a few years, I’m coming back to them with a fresh perspective and lots of new ideas. Just because I haven’t been writing doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking about the plots and characters and where I might take them!
Then there’s the business side of things. The very first thing I did upon returning to writing was to create a business and marketing plan. This is something I should have done a long time ago. As a sole proprietor, it’s easy to think you don’t need something like this. It’s not like I have to answer to a board of directors or a group of investors. But I found it helps a lot in terms of defining strategy, budget, and where I feel I need to invest my time in order to produce more content and grow my business (with an eventual goal of quitting my day job and writing full-time).
Last, there’s refreshing all the various ways I connect with readers. which includes my author website, Ko-fi, social media, Goodreads, and others.
On Twitter, I created a new account (@SMarloweAuthor) that is focused on me as an author. While there is some crossover between me as an author and me as a regular person, I never felt right about having those two overlap too greatly. One is a business and the other, personal. Others see it differently, and that’s fine. To each his own, I like to say.
I’ve also re-dedicated myself to providing updates to my Facebook page on a regular basis. At times, those updates will overlap with the updates here, but other times it will make sense to provide an update on one site and not the other. Regardless, you won't miss any of the big news by checking in with me here, so choose your preferred method.
That's it for now. Next, I plan to go over the status of my current writing projects.
Thanks for stopping by and, as always, thanks for the support!
